Ok so I was watching a TV show (Ghost whisper) .. and this family was remembering 1 thing about a loved one that had passed.. because if you remember 1 thing you will never forget them..
So I started to think about Bill & Dad and what would be one of my 1 things. My 1 thing for Bill would have to be his laugh.. he had the best deep laugh that you knew he was enjoying something.. and his dimples would show.. and for Dad would be when we were on a trip it was Paula, Me, Mom and Dad.. and you know dad could never take the main roads anywhere.. so we are driving along "Fred's road" and it was blacktop.. then all of a sudden it turned to gravel.. and dad says.. look ma we done run out of road!! Paula and I laughed so hard..
I have many more things that I remember.. but those tonight stood out in my mind..
So now everyone share their 1 thing!!..

I remember the hugs Dad always gave us first thing in the mornings when we were at home.
I remember the surprise and joy that Bill had when we gave him a small gift at Christmas time. (I think it was the Christmas before you got married.)
My 1 thing about Bill for today.. Every night when we would go to bed and lay there talking about our day he would take my hands and rub them... it was so nice and sweet..
I have a memory of Dad always putting on his coveralls to go out to work. Rain, shine, cold - didn't matter he was out the door every day. I think I learned my stubborn "have to do my best" from that.
I remember when Todd played the wedding march on grandma's organ after you two left the house on the hill in LaCygne. I wondered if you guys heard it?
I remember grandpa's laugh...how his upper lip & nose would kind of curl up when he really had a good one!
I remember Bill taking me to a Chief's game and letting me have a sip of his beer even though I wasn't anywhere near 21...hehe! He was so cool!
I remember Grandpa would have a huge burp where he would say "ooooowww" and then he'd look at you and say "Did you see that elephant run under the couch?" And I would think...since when does an elephant say "ow"?
I also remember one of the earlier times Grandpa was in the hospital and I was having a hard time picturing strong vibrant Grandpa lying in a snap up gown. Uncle Bill saw me tearing up and just didn't say anything but gave me the biggest strongest hug.
I remember when grandpa would fart and blame it on Rusty! That still makes me laugh to think about it to this day!
Growning up I use to love to sit on the couch and have dad put his feet over me.. because he was always laying down. Why I never learned my lesson but he would fart and you would try to get up and he would hold you down.. MEN love their own smell and love to share it with everyone!!! hehe
On the lines of farts.. Bill farted and made me puke once .. it was NASTY!!! hehe..
I remember when all the guys would go fishing in August and on the night they came back they would all filet the fish at like 1:30 in the morning! It was so cool!
"grandpa, where's the....?"
"down the cellar, behind the axe."
i remember when bill let me drive before i was old enough to drive. all was well and good until he wanted me to take the corner on the gravel road without breaking and we *almost* hit the telephone pole. whoopsydaisy!
Funny Amanda! I remember him saying that and whenever you asked something like:
"When are we going to _____?"
"Second Tuesday of next week."
Hey. that is when I will get my new skates. I have been waaa-iiit-ting a long time.
That was almost as good as getting them, because I believed him and went merrily on my way, happy in the knowledge that I was going to get my skates so soon.
Boy was I ever blond!!
I believe I was in 2nd grade at the time I asked for the skates.
and then there was "to make little girls like you ask questions!" You may as well go play because he was done answering your questions.
The first time I drove with Dad in the car, we got behind someone going slow, he wanted me to pass. I was soooo scared.
The vehicle was a tractor..you know a snail could get around it easily. (you think that is why he told me to pass and felt comfortable about it?) I was so nieve and cautious and blond. lol
well Dad would always sit around in his under shorts at night or anytime after his shower. When company would come down the road he would take off running to the bedroom and throw on some pants. I remember one time someone got clear down the hill before he saw them coming and he stubbed his toe really hard when he got up to put on some pants. He hopped around cursing but got his pants on. HA HA
I remember Bills terribly LOUD snoring...lol..cudos to Mel for being able to sleep through that...lol.
